12 Benefits of Infrared Saunas: Brain Health

Day 5 of our 12 benefits of Infrared Sauna Series!

Gerad shares his knowledge upside-down about brain health and the benefits you will see!

Infrared Saunas:

  • increases your release of dopamine, serotonin, norepinephrine which can help reduce anxiety, depression, and stress.

During the winter months mental health can be a big struggle. As we discussed on day 1 (Vitamin D) the colder months normally mean less time spend outside and less time in the sun. To counter these negative aspects you can join the gym and see a significant change in your brains health and your mental health!

Dopamine: Dopamine is known as the “feel-good” hormone. It gives you a sense of pleasure. It also gives you the motivation to do something when you're feeling pleasure. Dopamine is part of your reward system.

Serotonin: controls your mood and is responsible for happiness. It helps regulate when you sleep and wake, helps you think, maintains your mood, and controls your sexual desire.

Norepinephrine: As a neurotransmitter in your brain and spinal cord, norepinephrine: increases alertness, arousal and attention, constricts blood vessels, which helps maintain blood pressure in times of stress, affects your sleep-wake cycle, mood and memory.

  • improve blood circulation which improves the overall functioning of your brain and its alertness

  • lowers the risks of Alzheimer's and Dementia

More than 6 million people around the world are diagnosed with Alzheimer's and that number is predicted to increase.

Brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) is a protein in the brain that lowers your risk of mental disease. This protein increases the growth of new brain cells. Spending time in an infrared sauna boosts BDNF.
